At 9:30pm on April 3, 2007, NASDAQ President and CEO Bob Greifeld, Clark T. Randt Jr, the longest-tenured American Ambassador in China and representatives of the Chinese companies listed on the U.S. Nasdaq rang the Nasdaq opening bell remotely from Beijing to celebrate more and more Chinese companies had been listed on Nasdaq. At the same time, The huge screen at the Times Square in New York, US, showed that Nasdaq opening bell rung remotely from Beijing and Liu Biwei, the Chinese consul-general at New York emceed the reception in Nasdaq trade center. In the evening, Chen Gang, Secretary of Chaoyang District Committee, CPC, and Cheng Hong, Vice Director of Chaoyang district attended the opening bell ceremony in Beijng on invitation and met Mr. Bob Greifeld friendly.
Experts think that it is the first time in Nasdaq to hold a remote ceremony of ringing the opening bell for a country. This action shows Nasdaq's great attention to Chinese market, and reflects the pattern of keen competition it faced. On the ceremony, Robert Greifeld, president and CEO of Nasdaq, denoted that holding the ceremony of ringing the opening bell indicated that China economy had made great contribution to the international economy, and the numerous Chinese companies listed on Nasdaq had promoted the development of domestic economy, too.
