9:30 a.m., July 18th, The successful hoisting of the last 6-meter-long steel girder announced the roof-sealing of the steel-structured General Business Building, Beijing Television Center. The construction work was started from May 1st, 2004 and has lasted for more than 400 days. After completion, this building will be 236.4m high, 27.4m higher than the Jing Guang Building, the highest building in Beijing right now. Currently, this building is the highest one among buildings with roof sealed in Beijing.
The Beijing Television Center, of which the construction is carried out by Mechanicals Company of Beijing Construction Engineering Group, is one of the major construction projects planned by the municipal government of Beijing, and also a supplementary building for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The total investment on the General Business Building is 3.5 billion Yuan. With a floorage of 197,000 square meters, the 41-story (excluding the underground part) building cost 38,000 tons of steel, and is one of the few huge steel-structured buildings in China.
However, this building will not remain to be the highest one in Beijing for a long time. With the completion of Yin Tai Building (249m high) and the third stage of the China World Trade Center (330m high), both located in CBD Beijing, the height record of buildings in Beijing will be broken very soon.
