In the first quarter of 2005, there were total 2697 enterprises of various fields in CBD, an increase of 80 compared with those at the end of 2004, of which domestic enterprises amounted to 1808, accounting for about 67% of the total, and foreign-invested enterprises and enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan amounted to 889, accounting for about 33%. Service enterprises amounted to 1775, accounting for 65.81% and total number of employees of various enterprises exceeded 80,000.
In the first quarter of 2005, the regional economic operation of CBD displayed the following characteristics: 1.The number of enterprises moved to CBD and their employees increased steadily; the growth in the number of foreign-invested enterprises is higher than that of domestic enterprises, and the enterprises witnessing growth were concentrated on the service industry; 2.Service enterprises accounted for about 2/3 of total enterprises moved in CBD, constituting the pillar industry in CBD; 3.Foreign-invested enterprises moved to CBD were mainly those from such countries as the United States, Japan, Singapore, as well as European countries including UK, France, and Germany etc., and Hong Kong-invested enterprises also accounted for a pretty large proportion. In general, foreign-invested enterprises and enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan accounted for 1/3 of total enterprises moving to CBD; 4.CBD is one of the core areas of local tax revenue; the collected local tax revenue from enterprises in CBD amounted to RMB 560 million, an increase of RMB 110 million compared with those of the same period of last year, accounting for 24.5% of the total. The principal sectors accounting for most of the revenue are public service sector, real estate sector, and consultation service and advertising sector. 5.Numerous newly built office buildings with high quality provided investors with a broad space for development. Up to the March of 2005, 22 projects have been broken for the construction in CBD, covering area about 5.4 million square meters. In 2005, an area of 1.05 million square meters will be completed, of which office buildings account for 180,000 square meters, apartment 590,000 square meters, and commerce 60,000 square meters. With the continuous increase of the completed office buildings, more and more enterprises will move and invest in CBD. 6.Recently, there is a good trend that finance enterprises have been flocking to settle in CBD. With further clarification of the regional industrial functions of CBD, another batch of financial enterprises settled in CBD and international financial industry is playing the role among the regional service industry in CBD.
