Changyang Road¡ªOne of the Main Inner and Outer Roads of CBD - Reconstruction and Expansion Project

The reporter learnt yesterday that construction of the Chaoyang Road connecting the 3rd East Ring Road the 4th East Ring Road had already been kicked off, along which 8 passenger crossovers would be designed. At present, construction units have already entered into the construction site. It is expected that the project will be completed within the year. The Construction of Chaoyang Road will release the current traffic jam in the Dongdaqiao area, and form a radiation line between the 3rd East Ring Road and the 4th East Ring Road.
The Chaoyang Road starts from Dongdaqiao Road in the west and the 4th East Ring Road in the east, totaling 3.52 kilometers. The current conditions of the Chaoyang Road are that, its road surface is relatively narrow, with both-way four traffic lanes. The continuous development and construction along the lines of the Chaoyang Road, especially the completion and operation of some large-scale business facilities and residential areas, has attracted more and more traffic flows, which often result in traffic jam, and the situation has become more serious during peak hours. For this reason, the municipal committee and the municipal government have decided to implement the Chaoyang Road reconstruction and expansion project.
According to plan, the newly construct Chaoyang Road shall be of the main urban highway standards, with 60 meters wide for the red lines. The standard road cross-section shall be of three forms: the road section from the Dongdaqiao Road to the west side of the Guoan Hotel shall be one-way from the west to the east, to maintain the original form of the road cross-section unchanged, that is, the vehicle driveway shall be 14 meters wide, the south side vehicle non-separation zone and the non-vehicle driveway shall be 2 meters and 4 meters wide respectively; the road section from the west auxiliary road of the Guoan Hotel to the 4th East Ring Road shall be five-breadth roads, and currently it is exclusively used for public transport vehicles only, with 15 meters wide and the separation zones at both sides being 2.5 meters wide respectively; the main roads at both sides are 7-8 meters wide each, with both-way four traffics lanes, and the separation zone of the main auxiliary roads at both sides are 0.5-2.5 meters wide respectively, the auxiliary roads at both sides are 6 meters wide each, the non-vehicle driveway and the sidewalk at the outermost are on the same surface, of which, the south side is 5.3-7 meters wide, and the north side 5.5-6.5 meters. To ensure safety of passengers crossing the street, there shall be 8 passenger crossovers to be built along the road. The entire road line shall also be laid with municipal public lines such as water pipeline, electric wire, gas pipeline, and heat supply pipelines etc. Other engineering construction such as greening, lighting, and traffic engineering etc. shall also be implemented simultaneously along with the road-engineering project.
After completion and open to traffic, the Chaoyang Road shall form an important radiation line connecting the 3rd and the 4th ring roads in the east direction of Beijing. At the same time, it shall also be one of the main inner and outer roads of the CBD area of Beijing, which shall further perfect the urban road network structure, effectively relieve the traffic jam conditions of the surrounding highways, and greatly improve the urban traffic conditions and the environmental features of the surrounding areas, thereby providing the CBD area with sound municipal infrastructure conditions.
